What Jamie Lee Curtis Told Me About A Brave Brand and “Go Dog, Go!”

What if you could align with your best self and the original story you’re here to lead? A brand story that lights you up and opens the right faucet for your creativity and innovation to flow, cuts through complicated branding, and is as memorable as a classic children’s book.

Would you be brave enough to make it simple?

Which brings me to Jamie Lee. Two weeks ago, I saw an article about her where she credited a favorite children’s book, Go, Dog, Go! by author, P.D. Eastman.

Suddenly, a single line from that book and a conversation Jamie and I had years earlier came flooding back to me.

So, I called her to ask if I could write this blog.

The conversation began with me asking, “what is the first book you remember being read to you as a child?”

We were at an evening, grown-ups only event and without missing a beat, Jamie recited:

“Big dog.

Little Dog.

Big Dogs and Little dogs…”

“Hello”, one little dog says to another in passing.“Do you like my hat?”

“I do not.”, comes the reply.

“Goodbye.“, the first dog walks away in an undeterred huff.

“Do you like my hat? It was that non sequitur that got me,” Jamie said.

“I can see how it would do that,” I agreed. Then I went home and looked up what a “non sequitur” actually was.

Think..

I like peanut butter.

Can you swim?

When one idea or move doesn’t seem to follow the next logically. But it can sometimes make astute sense, powerful wisdom, disarming variety, and very funny entertainment. Like Jamie’s career and life.

The brand story and trajectory of a brilliant non sequitur.

Do you like her hat?

No problem. If you don’t like this one, there’s another one coming on the next appearance or next book or movie or passion. Undeterred. Genuine. A brilliant mind. Sincere and generous.

“There's no question in my mind that book gave birth to my sense of humor,” Jamie told me last week.

“It made me laugh then. And it makes me laugh now. I cherish it.”

Your original story, your first remembered book has no set meaning I know of. It’s what we discover together about the meaning your young psyche gave to it that holds the gold.

That has shaped your path for decades and can going forward. Creatively, strategically, profitably, and simply. Like the best brands do.

And now, through August l0th, I have single 60-Minute Story Power Sessions available. One hour one-on-one calls to connect you quickly and powerfully with the story you’re here to lead.

If you’re willing to let your business be that simple. I have used this to help change lives and companies from start-ups to a few of the world’s biggest brand founders and CEOs.

If this interests you, please email me today and I’ll get right back to you.

I heard Jamie say, “When I was a child, I soaked life in like a sponge. Now I’m on fire.”

Go, Jamie, go!
