If You Want To Be An Author, Please Kiss Ikea

by Leah Komaiko

Although the likelihood of my figuring out the instructions and then building any easy book shelf from IKEA on my own mental might is slim to minus zip; I still love this brand.

Because like all the best brands, IKEA’s real power is in its simplicity. And this week, I could just kiss them for their new catalogad:  “It’s a Book Book!”

Have you seen this yet?

It starts:  "Once in awhile, something comes along that changes the way we live…A device so simple and intuitive, using it feels almost familiar." It's a perfect parody of Apple launches and all our fast moving technology. With the Ikea big fat and free catalogyou get “no cables, no clouds, not even a plug!”

Simply, no innovation in human history is as intuitive, interactive and has changed the way we live like reading. How 26 letters morph into all those different words on the page, shoot straight into your head and can take you around the world is beyond awesome.

What else has gone and stayed viral for so long? Great delivery systems are fun and exciting and fast moving technology is going nowhere. But neither is the book. Whether you’re an author or expert or a Fortune 500, the bottom line is this: simple is just smart business.

The hardest part is knowing what your unique simple excellence is before you’ve gotten so lost and spent in the complex problems you’ve created that you can’t turn back. For IKEA their excellenceis that they are original, inexpensive and simple. When you know yours –it feels right.  It looks so darned easy-they want to just kiss you and you end up making greater profits.

So do you know yours?

If not, I’d love to hear from you.  Please e-mail me and I promise I'll get back to you.
